Busy Days Ahead!

Seventh and Eighth Grade students are preparing for our annual Large Group Performance Evaluation on Tuesday, February 14th.  Sixth Grade students are invited to sing in the atrium as people gather for International Night on Thursday, February 2nd. Sixth Grade Honor Chorus students, ACDA Honor Chorus students and our All-State student are busily preparing for their respective Honor Choruses coming up in the next month.  We have just completed auditions for our Spring Musical and have just announced the cast for Aladdin, 2012.  Eighth Grade students are working on music for their performance at Walt Disney World in March.  Whew!  Second semester is flying by very quickly!

We are also beginning our fund-raising project with World’s Finest Chocolate at the end of this week.  Students brought home a permission form yesterday that will allow them to participate in this project.  Students will be able to pick up their box of candy on Friday, February 3 and all money should be turned in by Wednesday, February 22.  This project will support our performances at Walt Disney World, Six Flags Over Georgia and our Spring Concert as well as supplement our program with music and supplies.

Your support is a vital part of our success and we appreciate all of your help in our upcoming events!  Thank you!

Back to School . . .

It was great to see everyone yesterday . . . new students, returning students . . . and today feels like we’re getting back to the rhythm of school!  I’m very excited about this school year and will be updating the various sections of this blog over the next week.  We have lots of information about the events for the year so look for a Performance Calendar to be posted soon as well.  Uniform information will be posted here and forms will also be coming home the beginning of next week.   Also, please check out the link for Honor Choruses for information about these special events for the year.  Many of these have application deadlines in the next few weeks so students and families will need to make decisions about these events soon!

I am already very pleased with the sound I’m hearing from the classes and I know we are going to have an awesome year!

School’s out for the summer!

Well, it’s here!  The last day of this school year and what a year it has been!  As noted in an earlier post, we had two students selected for All-State Chorus, three students performed at 6th Grade Statewide Honor Chorus, and five students were chosen for the District Honor Chorus.

Karlie and Macie

In addition to these honors, we were thrilled with the news this year that two students, Karlie Allen and Macie Skinner, were selected to represent HMS at the National American Choral Directors Association Conference in Chicago in March!  This was such a high honor for these students and they were excellent representatives of the HMS Chorus as they performed under the direction of renowned conductor, Dr. Henry Leck.  Congratulations girls!!!

Also in March, our 8th Grade Chorus joined with the 8th Grade Orchestra for a performance trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.  The students gave a great performance at the Waterside stage at Downtown Disney and filled the rest of the trip with lots of fun as they visited Epcot, Hollywood Studios and the Magic Kingdom.

A great trip!!!

In addition to these honors, our LGPE ratings, performing at the Milton Cluster Concert, singing for the Lighting of the Tree for the city of Milton, singing the National Anthem at the Milton HS football game and our annual fall, winter and spring concerts, it’s been a very busy and very successful year!

Thank you to our students for all of your hard work this year!  Thank you to our parents for your support in all of our efforts!  Thank you to our HMS faculty and staff for your support!  Good luck to our 8th grade students as you begin high school!

Have a wonderful summer!  See you in August!

This past weekend, Marta Palombo and Sean Flanagan represented our school at the annual All-State Chorus event in Savannah and gave fantastic performances with the Middle School Treble and Middle School Mixed Choirs.  We are very proud of all of these students and their great accomplishments this month!!
